Father's Day

Sunday, June 16

Father's Is one of the most important modern celebrations of the month of June and even when its not as commercialized and popular as Mother's Day its also a reason to celebrate those 2 wonderful people who brought you to live.

Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. Many countries celebrate it on the third Sunday of June, but it is also celebrated widely on other days. Father's Day was created to complement Mother's Day, a celebration that honors mothers and motherhood.

Father's Day was founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas. Its first celebration was on June 19, 1910.

Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. In recent years, stores have adapted to the holiday by promoting greeting cards and traditionally male-oriented gifts such as electronics and tools. Schools and other children's programs commonly have activities to make Father's Day gifts.

Father's Day is accompanied by a smaller total number of phone calls, greeting cards and gifts than Mother's Day. It is speculated that this is due to the greater number of households with a mother than households with a father (due to single mothers), to the greater role of mothers in housework, and to historical advantage - Mother's Day began in 1870 and became official in 1914 while Father's Day only became official in 1972.

Either or, if you are lucky enough to have your father around go and celebrate it with him, as always it doesn't need to be something big ..but its nice to make someone realize how much you appreciate them in your life.

Mother's Day

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

 Honors mothers and motherhood
In the United states its celebrated the second sunday of May

THIS YEAR IS SUNDAY, MAY 12TH

Mother's Day is a celebration honoring mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in March, April or May. It complements Father's Day, a celebration honoring fathers.
Mother's Day is an American invention, and it is not directly descended from the many celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have occurred throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration. Despite this, in some countries Mother's Day has become synonymous with these older traditions.

In the United States, Mother's Day remains one of the biggest days for sales of flowers, greeting cards, and the like; Mother's Day is also the biggest holiday for long-distance telephone calls

Your Trees & The Hurricane

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Tree Damage can be one of the saddest and most worrisome results of any hurricane or severe storm. Trees are very important for humans and the earth. In terms of safety they can be damage structures during a hurricane.
Knowing which trees to plant, where to plant them, and how to prepare existing trees for hurricane season can greatly reduce the risk of lost or damaged trees.

There are some steps you can take on your own, but for best results, rely on the experience of your tree service professional. Have a tree expert remove dead trees and dread tree limbs and evaluate the health of trees near enough to fall on your (or your neighbor's) house. Your tree service professional is your greatest tool in preventative care to make less the damage.

Pruning is crucial in allowing a tree to grow strong which reduces the factors of causing damage. Trees need to be pruned selectively to allow wind passage, encourage strong branch angles and encourage a healthy center of gravity so it doesn't incline and falls.

Another concern is leaf debris. Tree leaves and pine needles can clog house gutters. The excess water increases the weight in the gutters and may cause them to fail and clog. The pooling water can overflow and cause wood rot and even enter the exterior wall resulting in Sheetrock damage inside your home. Make sure gutters and downspouts are clean in advance of inclement weather. If you see plants growing in your gutters, it is time to clean them!

When Is The Best Time For Prunning

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Pruning is important for tree maintenance.

When to Prune:

Dead, diseased and broken wood can be removed at any time of year. The best time for general pruning is in before and after season, immediately before growth starts. It may be necessary to give fast-growing plants an additional light pruning or two during the growing season. Good judgment must be exercised when pruning. Severe pruning can usually be avoided if pruning is done annually. Also depending on weather conditions.

Why Prune?

Limit the pruning of most tree removal of dead, diseased and injured wood and to the maintenance of the natural shape of the plants.

When Is a good Idea To Prune

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716
Many people are unsure of when the right time to prune is. Pruning is the cutting or removing branches or parts of trees or for improving the shape or growth of trees. This is the number one most common tree maintenance procedure.

Pruning during the winter months or dormancy is the most common practice. It results in a vigorous burst of new growth in the spring and should be used if that is the effect you’re looking for. For best results, it’s better to wait until the coldest part of the winter has passed.

You also have the option of summer pruning. To direct the growth by slowing the branches you don’t want to slow down or “dwarf” the development of a tree branch. Pruning should be done soon after seasonal growth is complete. Summer is also a good time for pruning for corrective purposes. Defective limbs can be seen more easily, or limbs that hang down too far under the weight of the leaves.

If you’re pruning flowering trees to enhance flowering, here are two steps you should be sure to follow:
  1. For trees that bloom in spring, prune when their flowers fade.
  2. Trees and shrubs that flower in mid- to late summer should be pruned in winter or early spring.
The only time of year you should avoid pruning altogether is in the fall! At this time, decay fungi spread their spores profusely in the fall and healing of wounds seems to be slower in the fall.
