How To Take Care Of Your Trees On Summer Time!

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716
www.AAATreeServiceNY.com

Summer Dos, Don’ts and Tips for Trees

Does

·        Use organic mulches (wood chips, bark, etc)  to conserve soil moisture and moderate soil temperature.  Mulch should be 2 -4 inches deep and should never touch the trunk of the tree.
·        Pay more attention to trees near pavement or other hard surfaces since these trees experience more heat than those in  the middle of a yard or landscaped area.
·        Water so that it soaks into the ground rather than running off.
·        Deep watering is essential!
·        The best time to water mature trees is between late evening, at night , or very early morning.   Trees replace the  water they have lost during the day at night.  Watering at night also reduces the amount of water lost to evaporation.
·        During drought and water restrictions, give trees priority over lawns.  It takes many more years to grow a tree than a lawn.  A lawn can become dormant and, if necessary, can be replaced in a season; it could take a lifetime to replace a large tree.
·        Inspect for Bugs.
·        There are several species that are more prevalent in summer months. If you are unsure of what to look for, contact your local arborist who can help identify devastating species and provide helpful information on getting rid of the pests.
·        Hazard Assessment.
·        Now is the perfect time to inspect trees to determine hazard assessment. The Atlantic Hurricane season officially began on June 1, 2012 and ends on November 30, 2012. It is important to identify problem areas with trees early on to protect your family, home and property. Contact your arborist to do a complete assessment.

Donts

·        Do not use inorganic mulches such as stones.
·        Do not give small amounts of water.  Even if this is done often, it does more harm than good. This encourages shallow roots that dry quickly.
·        Do not use fertilizers around trees during drought and be very cautious about the use of pesticides.
·        Do not prune unless absolutely necessary, with high temperatures many times trees can dry up and instead of helping the tree you will be killing the tree. Spring and Fall are the best times to prune a tree

Father's Day

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Sunday, June 16

Father's Is one of the most important modern celebrations of the month of June and even when its not as commercialized and popular as Mother's Day its also a reason to celebrate those 2 wonderful people who brought you to live.

Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. Many countries celebrate it on the third Sunday of June, but it is also celebrated widely on other days. Father's Day was created to complement Mother's Day, a celebration that honors mothers and motherhood.

Father's Day was founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas. Its first celebration was on June 19, 1910.

Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. In recent years, stores have adapted to the holiday by promoting greeting cards and traditionally male-oriented gifts such as electronics and tools. Schools and other children's programs commonly have activities to make Father's Day gifts.

Father's Day is accompanied by a smaller total number of phone calls, greeting cards and gifts than Mother's Day. It is speculated that this is due to the greater number of households with a mother than households with a father (due to single mothers), to the greater role of mothers in housework, and to historical advantage - Mother's Day began in 1870 and became official in 1914 while Father's Day only became official in 1972.

Either or, if you are lucky enough to have your father around go and celebrate it with him, as always it doesn't need to be something big ..but its nice to make someone realize how much you appreciate them in your life.
Let us know how you celebrate Father's Day ...you can always visit us on our WEBSITE.

Why The Sun Is Good

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716
www.AAATreeServiceNY.com

FOR years we have been told to cover up in the sun to cut the risk of getting skin cancer. But now it seems that a little bit of sunshine on your body is actually good for you.
Studies have shown that a sensible amount of sun reduces your risk of several cancers and other serious health conditions.
And it's all thanks to vitamin D, which is made by our bodies through the action of the sun's UVB rays on our skin.
Even the Stone Age people knew the Sun brought life on Earth and that is why they used to worship it. But the sun waves can heal and destroy, they can be the kiss of life or death. It depends on the way we use them.
1. The sunlight kills microbes. That's why it is important to put out in the sun carpets, blankets and eiderdowns that cannot be washed regularly. Exposure to the sun confers the skin a bright, healthy look and increased elasticity.
A moderately tanned skin is more resistant to infections and sun burning than an untanned one. Many skin diseases (dermatitis) can be controlled and even cured through controlled exposure to the sun. The sun rays are proven to strengthen the immune system.
2. Due to the sun our mood and morals improve. Sunlight helps in cases of chronic or acute depression, by stimulating the synthesis of endorphins (good-feeling hormones). That's why we get depressed in the cold and dark days of the winter.
3. The sun is good against insomnia. Daytime exposure to sunlight increases the melatonin production during the night. This hormone helps regulate the sleep.
4. Under the action of the sunlight, the skin synthesizes vitamin D, which makes possible calcium absorption in the intestine, helping the organism grow strong bones. This way the sun prevents rachitism in both children and adults and osteoporosis in elders.
5. As vitamin D and some related compounds impede the development of some cancer cells, we can say the sun fights off this disease. Regular and controlled exposure to the sun has a preventive effect against cancer of colon, breast, leukemia and lymphomas.
6. Exposure to the sun strengthens the cardiovascular system. Blood circulation is improved, the pulse, arterial pressure, moderately high glycemia and cholesterol levels can be normalized.
7. Sun rays improve liver functioning, being effective in treating jaundice.
8. They help the kidneys with a part of their job, as the sun waves favor the elimination of waste products through the skin, when we sweat.
9. The sun also helps losing weight by increasing the metabolic rate through the stimulation of the thyroid. It also eases symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.
10. The sun rays also ease the healing of the swollen joints during peaks of inflammation in cases of arthritis.

How old Can a Tree Live?

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

It depends on the species tree. Some species don't live too long, maybe 40 or 50 years for some palm trees, but some can live up to 5000 years, such as the Bristlecone Pine (Pinus longaeva).

Most tree species live on the order of one to a few hundred years, and so will easily outlive a person, and can also outlive some countries. For example, many of the giant redwoods on the central coast of California were alive when Christopher Columbus discovered the new world, and were alive when the founding fathers rebelled against England, and will still be around in another several hundred years.

Trees can live anywhere from less than 100 years up to more than a few thousand years. It all depends on what type of tree it is. In the United States, the tree with the longest lifespan is the bristle cone pine, which grows in the mountains of Nevada and southern California. A singletree can live up to 5,000 years!

Are You Ready For Atlantic Hurricane Season?

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

June 1st marks the official date of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. With that said, it isn’t a bad idea to prepare a comprehensive plan for the upcoming season.

Some of the first steps in preparing your house are to stock up on nonperishable items and water. Next, set aside flashlights, extra batteries and lanterns. If you are on special medications, make sure you are stocked up to date in case you are unable to leave your home for a few days. Also, plan an evacuation route

Once you’ve got the indoors under control, it’s time to focus on your outdoor property. Even though water and wind account for much of the damage caused by a hurricane, falling trees and flying debris also add to the destruction.

In order to avoid maximum destruction that trees can cause, proper maintenance needs to be done to keep your trees healthy. This includes pruning, watering and fertilization. Many people also choose to board their windows when a hurricane may be approaching to protect the glass from debris. Most of the time, a lot of the debris comes from your backyard including flying patio furniture or lawn ornaments. It is important to make sure all of these items are locked down and secure if you’re expecting a hurricane.

There is no way to make your property 100% safe from hurricane destruction. Although, taking some of these steps can minimize the damage the layout of your landscape can cause to your home in the event of a hurricane.

What steps have you taken to prepare your house for a hurricane? Let us know on AAA Tree Services Facebook Page linked here! And don't forget to bookmark our page in case of an emergency- we are your EMERGENCY TREE SERVICE PROFESSIONALS!

Memorial Day

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Memorial Day

When: The last Monday in May.
Memorial Day is officially celebrated on the last Monday during the month of May. Memorial Day is dedicated to service men and women who gave their lives for freedom and country. It is also a time to remember loved ones who have passed away. The roots of Memorial Day go back to 1865 and the end of the Civil War.
Memorial Day was traditionally held on the 30th of May. In 1971, Congress changed it to the last Monday in order to afford a three day holiday weekend. Regardless of the date, we encourage you to attend a parade, and to visit a cemetery to honor and remember our servicemen . Take time to remember lost loved ones in whatever way you feel appropriate.

Wonderful Facts about Trees

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716
www.AAATreeServiceNY.com

·       Trees are the longest living organisms on the planet and one of the earth's greatest natural resources. They keep our air supply clean, reduce noise pollution, improve water quality, help prevent erosion, provide food and building materials, create shade, and help make our landscapes look beautiful.

·       Well-maintained trees and shrubs can increase property value by up to 14%.

·       Trees properly placed around buildings can reduce air conditioning needs by 30%

·       A mature tree removes almost 70 times more pollution than a newly planted tree.

·       A healthy tree can have a value of up to $10,000.

·       The shade and wind buffering provided by trees reduces annual heating and cooling costs by 2.1 billion dollars.

·       Each average-sized tree provides an estimated $7 savings in annual environmental benefits, including energy conservation and reduced pollution.

·       A single tree produces approximately 260 pounds of oxygen per year. That means two mature trees can supply enough oxygen annually to support a family of four!

·       Water originating in our national forests provide drinking water for over 3400 communities, and approximately 60 million individuals.

·       One tree can absorb as much carbon in a year as a car produces while driving 26,000 miles.

·       Over the course its life, a single tree can absorb one ton of carbon dioxide.

·       An average American uses about 750 pounds of paper every year, and 95% of homes are built using wood. That means each person uses the equivalent of one 100 foot tall, 16 inch diameter, tree every year for their paper and wood product needs.

·       About one third of the United States of America is covered by forests.

·       According to the last forest inventory, there are almost 247 billion trees over 1 inch in diameter in the U.S.

·       The average tree in an urban/city area has a life expectancy of only 8 years.

·       The tallest tree in the country is a Coast Redwood growing in northern California's Redwood National Park. It is 369 feet tall and over 2000 years old!
