Worst Plants for Allergies

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

While spring and fall allergies cause the same symptoms (sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny nose), their triggers are different.

Spring allergies, which run from February to late July, are brought on by pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds. Fall allergies go from mid-August through the first autumn frost, and are chiefly set off by pollen from the ragweed plant, mold, and dust mites.

Worst Plants for Allergies
You can expect more plant pollen and seasonal allergies if you put any of these plants in your yard.
Flowers/herbs
Amaranth (pigweed), chamomile, chrysanthemums, daisies, goldenrod, ordinary sunflowers.
Shrubs/vines
Cypress, jasmine vine, juniper, wisteria.
Trees
Alder, ash (male), aspen (male), beech, birch, box elder (male), cedar (male), cottonwood (male), elm, hickory, red and silver maples (male), mulberry (male), oak, olive, palm (male), pecan, pine, poplar (male), sycamore, walnut, willow (male).
Grasses
Bermuda, fescue, Johnson, June, orchard, perennial rye, redtop, salt grass, sweet vernal, timothy.
Weeds
Cocklebur, ragweed, Russian thistle, sagebrush.
Best Plants for Allergies
You'll have fewer plant pollen worries with these plants that produce little to no airborne pollen. So you can enjoy working with them and watching them grow.
Flowers
Begonia, cactus, chenille, clematis, columbine, crocus, daffodil, dusty miller, geranium, hosta, impatiens, iris, lily, pansy, periwinkle, petunia, phlox, rose, salvia, snapdragon, thrift, tulip, verbena, zinnia.
Hypoallergenic sunflower seeds
All these grow 5 to 6 feet tall -- and the pollen is too heavy to be spread easily.
Apricot Twist (apricot with gold center), Infrared Mix (dark crimson, ruby, golden-reds), The Joker (showy red-and-yellow double blooms), Pro-Cut Bicolor (stunning mahogany and yellow with black centers).
Shrubs
Azalea, boxwood (if clipped often), hibiscus, hydrangea, viburnum.
Trees
Apple, cherry, Chinese fan palm (female), fern pine (female), dogwood, English holly (female), Bradford pear, crepe myrtle, hardy rubber tree, magnolia, pear, plum, red maple (female).
Grasses
St. Augustine.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

New Year's resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit. A key element to a New Year's resolution that sets it apart from other resolutions is that it is made in anticipation of the New Year and new beginnings. People committing themselves to a New Year's resolution generally plan to do so for the whole following year. This lifestyle change is generally interpreted as advantageous.

The top 10 new years resolutions are:

  1. Spend more time with family and friends
  2. Lose weight
  3.  Get fit and eat healthier
  4.  Quit smoking and/or drinking
  5.  Enjoy life and be happy
  6. Have better finances
  7. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
  8. Travel
  9. Get organize
  10. Volunteering

Many studies conducted by universities have shown that the rate of actual achieved resolutions unfortunately is low, many advice people people sometimes don't start with small goals.

The number one goal that is less achievable seems to be #2 & #3 since the gym becomes people's #1 enemy, this past week a new report came out saying this new years resolutions only last until February .

The only advice we give to people is to make small shot time goals, find a partner in crime either if its to quit smoking or eat healthier even better if you find a gym buddy to has a lot of will power. Be reasonable "Rome wasn't built in a day" because good things take time :)

P.S. Don't forget to take care of your trees at home and prune them regularly so this way you wont have to worry if a natural disaster such as sandy comes around, you'll be ready for this.

GOOD LUCK  EVERYONE!

Problems After Sandy

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

It's been already 2 Months since the Sandy Hurricane hit the East Coast, but many problems seem to be still here not going away for many residents. The accumulation of debris its a big problem, stumps not being removed yet and garbage disposal are the main problems of why this hasn't gone away yet.

When a natural disaster like sandy occurs security goes first, emergencies go on the top of the list , the most important thing is to secure that no one gets hurt and the most dangerous situations get fixed first. The problem is that many emergencies happened at the same time and the minor and last details after a while are amounting.

Problem #1 Some debris hasn't been picked up and still on the streets because the town isn't coming around soon enough. Well what you can do its make sure you and your neighbors are on top of the town but sometimes there is certain debris that they wont pick up. Debris being picked up from tree companies may be taking a little bit of time too and also depending on when you go the job done, after a natural disaster for everything to be taken away 100% can even take up to 4 weeks.

Problem #2  Sumps not being removed yet, well this one should be the least of the problems although they arent good for the view te emergency is gone, the fallen tree. There is aproximatelly 3,000 to 4,000 stumps to be removed in NY. These will be taken down is an slower pace.

Problem #3   Garbage disposal, This is the main cause of why problem #1 and problem #2 still exist...there is no place to throw out debris. All the places where the goverment and tree companies dispose all the garbage and full. In many places like in Floyd Bennett Field started burning out debris. The American Lung Association is against this while the enviromental office says its the safest alternative we have. The only way this can be solved unfortunatelly its with time and contacting the goverment so they can help long island to get rid of the debris problem.

RECENT QUESTIONS FROM OUR CUSTOMERS

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Today we will start answering some of the most common questions we get everytime we go and give an estimate.

One of our most common question is:

Customer: "I have my neighbor's tree branches hanging all over my property, Am I allowed to cut them or should I wait and let them take care of that?"

Based on NY State Law any branches that overhangs your property you are allowed to cut because that becomes yours since its on your property line. We would also recommend you go and discuss it with your neighbor before doing anything. They may prefer to do it themselves to not harm the tree or hire a a profesional to do it. Sometimes in situations like these you can built a good relationship with the neighbors so these type of things don't become a problem, Its always good to communicate specially when it involves two properties
