Don't Forget To Use Sunscreen

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716
www.AAATreeServiceNY.com

Its been said many times and more others proven that to go in the sun without pretection can cause you some serious skin damage.
The UV rays can harm your skin in just minutes even when you can't see, but you'll get to feel it later. Thats why here are some tips:
·        Try to put on sunscreen before you go outside to get full protection. And remember to reapply every 2 hours, more frequently if you are in water.
·        Always use a sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) 15 or higher. The higher the SPF number, the higher the protection.
·        Put a thicker layer of sunscreen on the most exposed body parts: arms, legs, neck, back and face.
·        Protect your lips with sunscreen lip balm.
·        Avoid using sunscreen on babies younger than six months—use hats, clothing and shade for protection.
·        Think about using cosmetics that contain sunscreen. Even these should be at least SPF 15.
·        Choose a broad spectrum of products that guard against the sun's ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays.
Other ways to protect yourself include:
·        Clothing: Shirts and pants made from tightly woven fabric offer the best protection.
·        Hats: To get the most protection, wear a hat with a brim that shades the face, ears and back of your neck.
·        Sunglasses: They protect your eyes from UVA and UVB rays and lower cataract risks.
·        Shade: Get under an umbrella, tree or anywhere else with shade.

Getting sunburned or tanned could be a red flag about your skin's health. When you're in the sun, make sure to slather on some sunscreen and reapply after being out for more than two hours to keep beauty—and your health—skin deep.

How Much Oxygen Does One Tree Produce?

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

When is it a fact trees are important for our survival, many people wonder of how much really a tree can contribute to the human species. Trees produce oxygen which is what humans inhale as well as they inhale carbon dioxide which is what humans create. The trees need us as we need them. We both wouln't be able to survive without the other. The amount of oxygen produced by a tree depends on several factors, but here are some typical calculations.
The atmosphere of the Earth has a different composition from that of other planets in part due to the biochemical reactions of Earth's organisms. Trees and plankton play a big role in this. There are different answers for this and many people who have come to different answer but the truth is a tree is plays a mayor role in the survival of more than 1 human. The amount of oxygen produced by a tree depends on the species of tree, its age, its health, and also on the tree's surroundings. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, "a mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year." Here are some other quoted figures regarding the amount of oxygen produced by a tree:

"A single mature tree can absorb carbon dioxide at a rate of 48 lbs./year and release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to support 2 human beings."
- McAliney, Mike. Arguments for Land Conservation: Documentation and Information Sources for Land Resources Protection, Trust for Public Land, Sacramento, CA, December, 1993

"One acre of trees annually consumes the amount of carbon dioxide equivalent to that produced by driving an average car for 26,000 miles. That same acre of trees also produces enough oxygen for 18 people to breathe for a year."
- New York Times

" A 100-ft tree, 18" diameter at its base, produces 6,000 pounds of oxygen."

"On average, one tree produces nearly 260 pounds of oxygen each year. Two mature trees can provide enough oxygen for a family of four."
- Environment Canada, Canada's national environmental agency

"Mean net annual oxygen production (after accounting for decomposition) per hectare of trees (100% tree canopy) offsets oxygen consumption of 19 people per year (eight people per acre of tree cover), but ranges from nine people per hectare of canopy cover (four people/ac cover) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to 28 people/ha cover (12 people/ac cover) in Calgary, Alberta."
- U.S. Forest Service and International Society of Arboriculture joint publication

April Showers Bring May Flowers

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

“April showers bring May flowers." This is such a known and popular saying its been taught by parents and teachers. This saying is so old that you can even go back to the mid 1500's.

The rhyme used to be a short poem but there is more to it than just a rhyme. “April showers bring May flowers” is a reminder that even the most unpleasant of things, in this case the heavy rains of April, can bring about very enjoyable things indeed – in this case, an abundance of flowers in May. “April showers bring May flowers” is a lesson in patience, and one that remains valid to this day.

Many of life’s greatest things come only to those who wait, and by patiently and happily enduring the clouds and damp of April you can find yourself more easily able to take in the sights and smells of May. After all, it’s easier to love something if you begin with an optimistic outlook!

“April showers bring May flowers” isn’t just a rhyme. It’s an example of the spring cycle of renewal that many parts of the Earth go through, and can be scientifically analyzed. There are actually several contributing factors to the appearance of flowers in May.

Earth Day In NY

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Earth Day is more than a one-day event or annual environmental wake-up call. It is a catalyst for ongoing education, action, and change. It simultaneously broadens the base of support and rekindles old commitments through highly participatory strategies.

Earth Day New York is a  501 organization that promotes environmental awareness and solutions through partnerships with schools, community organizations, businesses, and government entities; educating public and private policymakers throgh conferences and publications; and involving the general public in annual Earth Day events.

Earth Day New York was founded in late 1989 by a broad coalition of environmental groups to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Earth Day in New York City.

For the past seven years, Earth Day New York has hosted an outdoor fair at Grand Central, which has included hundreds of both local and national green businesses and environmental organizations, as well as a concert. Two years ago, we added Times Square to the festivities, where we have a green vehicle exhibition and even more businesses and environmental organizations are represented.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

New Year's resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit. A key element to a New Year's resolution that sets it apart from other resolutions is that it is made in anticipation of the New Year and new beginnings. People committing themselves to a New Year's resolution generally plan to do so for the whole following year. This lifestyle change is generally interpreted as advantageous.

The top 10 new years resolutions are:

  1. Spend more time with family and friends
  2. Lose weight
  3.  Get fit and eat healthier
  4.  Quit smoking and/or drinking
  5.  Enjoy life and be happy
  6. Have better finances
  7. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
  8. Travel
  9. Get organize
  10. Volunteering

Many studies conducted by universities have shown that the rate of actual achieved resolutions unfortunately is low, many advice people people sometimes don't start with small goals.

The number one goal that is less achievable seems to be #2 & #3 since the gym becomes people's #1 enemy, this past week a new report came out saying this new years resolutions only last until February .

The only advice we give to people is to make small shot time goals, find a partner in crime either if its to quit smoking or eat healthier even better if you find a gym buddy to has a lot of will power. Be reasonable "Rome wasn't built in a day" because good things take time :)

P.S. Don't forget to take care of your trees at home and prune them regularly so this way you wont have to worry if a natural disaster such as sandy comes around, you'll be ready for this.

GOOD LUCK  EVERYONE!

Christmas & Santa Clause

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Santa is a mythical, historical who in many cultures is said to bring gifts to children who behave good. During the christianization of germany this figure had elements of the god odin and was given the name of a christian bishop Saint Nicholas.

The image of the white-bearded man was adopted in the united states and canada in the 19th century after the poem from 1823 "A Visit From St. Nicholas" and of caricaturist and political cartoonist Thomas Nast. Television made it possible to distribute.

According to a tradition which can be traced to the 1820s, Santa Claus lives at the North Pole, with elves and flying reindeers. Since the 20th century, in an idea popularized by the 1934 song "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town".

Pre-modern representations of the gift-giver from church history and folklore, notably St Nicholas and Sinterklaas, merged with the British character Father Christmas to create the character known to Britons and Americans as Santa Claus!

The North American traditions associated with Santa Claus are derived from a number of Christmas traditions from various countries. Some rituals (such as visiting a department store Santa) occur in the weeks and days before Christmas while others, such as preparing snacks for Santa, are specific to Christmas Eve. Some rituals, such as setting out stockings to be filled with gifts.

AUTUMN CLEAN UP

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

When seasons change we all love the change and mix of colors, but this beauty can only last for a bit when we realize these leaves will fall and we will have to clean up. They can be cleaned through blowing, raking or vacuuming.

When cleaning and putting all the leaves together we recommend concentrated areas suck as under trees, inside fences or the crook of an l-wing on a house, where the leaves stay there and don't have another place to go.

Try to just not blow them , you can add carbon dioxide which reduces other nutrients to the environment.

Leaves can damage for homes, cars but specially roofs.

To prevent this you should trim your branches so that leaves don't fall on your roof, the perfect time for pruning is before leaves start falling which eliminates the work in advance.

To lighten cleaning loads for the leaves that do land on the roof, consider covering gutters with chicken wire or commercial gutter screens.

5 ways to get rid of leaves after collected would be compost them, make leaf mold, mulch, hoard them or mow them.

Why Trees Fall

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Trees are a very important part of life and necessary for us, they offer benefits and beauty. Many times trees or parts of trees may fall and injure a home or someone. Homeowners are responsible to make the property and environment safe. While there are many possibilities of a tree to fall, only a very small number can actually cause damage but its always better to be safe than sorry.

The best way when you can identify if a tree is a risk is by hiring a profesional but it can also be visible. Trees with time grow uneven and unbalanced but there are ways we can avoid accidents. In aaatreeservice every time we go and give an estimate we realize that most of the times the reason why a tree felt was is because 80% of the tree's total weight was located on the top part of the tree causing the tree to lean to the side and fall. The best way to avoid any danger is to up-keep your trees, maintain them in good conditions and give them a safety prune or a prune back.

If you have any questions or can’t find the service you’re looking for, call AAA so we can answer all of your questions! Also, be sure to visit our Facebook page, linked HERE!

WHY DO I NEED A PERMIT TO REMOVE A TREE?

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

When the weather damages trees many times people tend to believe that since a tree is located in their property they can decide whether or not they can remove a tree, but they can actually get in trouble if they don't investigate; they may need a permit of removal. If you are thinking whether or not taking down a tree on your own property, you would need to contact your Village to do so. If you don’t follow Village Code and remove trees unlawfully, you could be fined. The answer May Vary also depending in which Village you reside in.

                 You may need a permit:

Trees with trunks exceeding 6-12 inches in diameter.

None Common Tree species

Any tree located close to a busy street or close to a curb.

If a tree is completely healthy, many times Villages can send their own tree expert to revise the tree.

Depending the Location of it, even if it is inside your property.

You may not need a permit:

  • Small trees with thin trunk diameter of less than 6 inches.

  • A tree that is endangering your property or created some damage to your property.

  • A tree may be removed when an actual emergency is happening to protect your property and  people lives.

  • If a tree is determined by a tree expert to be dead or dying a report must be submitted to the Village building department.

  • A tree may also be removed if considered an invasive species.

We would always advice the home owner to investigate with your local town.

Towns that may need permits: Suffolk and Nassau County, NEW YORK.
