Don't Forget To Use Sunscreen

Its been said many times and more others proven that to go in the sun without pretection can cause you some serious skin damage.
The UV rays can harm your skin in just minutes even when you can't see, but you'll get to feel it later. Thats why here are some tips:
·        Try to put on sunscreen before you go outside to get full protection. And remember to reapply every 2 hours, more frequently if you are in water.
·        Always use a sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) 15 or higher. The higher the SPF number, the higher the protection.
·        Put a thicker layer of sunscreen on the most exposed body parts: arms, legs, neck, back and face.
·        Protect your lips with sunscreen lip balm.
·        Avoid using sunscreen on babies younger than six months—use hats, clothing and shade for protection.
·        Think about using cosmetics that contain sunscreen. Even these should be at least SPF 15.
·        Choose a broad spectrum of products that guard against the sun's ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays.
Other ways to protect yourself include:
·        Clothing: Shirts and pants made from tightly woven fabric offer the best protection.
·        Hats: To get the most protection, wear a hat with a brim that shades the face, ears and back of your neck.
·        Sunglasses: They protect your eyes from UVA and UVB rays and lower cataract risks.
·        Shade: Get under an umbrella, tree or anywhere else with shade.

Getting sunburned or tanned could be a red flag about your skin's health. When you're in the sun, make sure to slather on some sunscreen and reapply after being out for more than two hours to keep beauty—and your health—skin deep.

Why The Sun Is Good

FOR years we have been told to cover up in the sun to cut the risk of getting skin cancer. But now it seems that a little bit of sunshine on your body is actually good for you.
Studies have shown that a sensible amount of sun reduces your risk of several cancers and other serious health conditions.
And it's all thanks to vitamin D, which is made by our bodies through the action of the sun's UVB rays on our skin.
Even the Stone Age people knew the Sun brought life on Earth and that is why they used to worship it. But the sun waves can heal and destroy, they can be the kiss of life or death. It depends on the way we use them.
1. The sunlight kills microbes. That's why it is important to put out in the sun carpets, blankets and eiderdowns that cannot be washed regularly. Exposure to the sun confers the skin a bright, healthy look and increased elasticity.
A moderately tanned skin is more resistant to infections and sun burning than an untanned one. Many skin diseases (dermatitis) can be controlled and even cured through controlled exposure to the sun. The sun rays are proven to strengthen the immune system.
2. Due to the sun our mood and morals improve. Sunlight helps in cases of chronic or acute depression, by stimulating the synthesis of endorphins (good-feeling hormones). That's why we get depressed in the cold and dark days of the winter.
3. The sun is good against insomnia. Daytime exposure to sunlight increases the melatonin production during the night. This hormone helps regulate the sleep.
4. Under the action of the sunlight, the skin synthesizes vitamin D, which makes possible calcium absorption in the intestine, helping the organism grow strong bones. This way the sun prevents rachitism in both children and adults and osteoporosis in elders.
5. As vitamin D and some related compounds impede the development of some cancer cells, we can say the sun fights off this disease. Regular and controlled exposure to the sun has a preventive effect against cancer of colon, breast, leukemia and lymphomas.
6. Exposure to the sun strengthens the cardiovascular system. Blood circulation is improved, the pulse, arterial pressure, moderately high glycemia and cholesterol levels can be normalized.
7. Sun rays improve liver functioning, being effective in treating jaundice.
8. They help the kidneys with a part of their job, as the sun waves favor the elimination of waste products through the skin, when we sweat.
9. The sun also helps losing weight by increasing the metabolic rate through the stimulation of the thyroid. It also eases symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.
10. The sun rays also ease the healing of the swollen joints during peaks of inflammation in cases of arthritis.

Activities for Memorial Day Weekend

Everyone knows that this weekend is one of the busiest weekends for traveling. Second only to the Fourth of July holiday, Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest for car travel.

The more traveling it also means the more accidents that can occur. Knowing full well what comes along with the traditional summer season kick-off celebration, law enforcement, AAA and first responders will be out in full swing statewide. In the state of New York they always launch programs for this weekend, more police men and women go to the streets to try to stop drunk drivers and check seat beats.
But Don't worry here are some ideas of the things you can do this weekend.

After hurricane sandy many of our local beaches were badly damaged and have been gone through repairs and although the weather is not cooperating much this yr all our state beaches and parks are being reopened this weekend. Although the mark of sandy's destruction still can be seen and some things still under construction there , you can have access to the beaches and parks, now we need the sun to come out!

Brookhaven Fair: Farmingville NY. This fair is very traditional of this weekend. Bring your kids and enjoy of a good time. Open from May 24th - June 9th Visit the website to buy tickets!

Another traditional activity is Little Neck–Douglaston Memorial Day Parade
Honor fallen members of the United States Armed Forces at the largest of the city’s Memorial Day parades. Bring your handheld Old Glory and cheer on local members of the military, veterans, marching bands, Brownie troops and Boy Scouts as they march westward along Northern Boulevard in Queens from Great Neck to Douglaston.

An Of Course There is much more these are just some Ideas but dont forget that, well, it isn’t just about day-drinking and savoring extra time away from your desk—it honors the men and women who have died while serving in our armed forces. Pause during your BBQ to remember the sacrifices made for the red, white and blue, and check out one of the Memorial Day parades happening in each of the five boroughs. Memorial Day weekend also marks the unofficial start to summer in New York. Here are the best events, beaches, parks, memorials, concerts, vacation spots and other things to do throughout the three-day weekend.

Don’t spend your precious days off waiting around in airport lounges; easy day trips and overnights are just a car, train or bus ride away. Whether you’re looking for adventurous outdoor activities, sunbathing, beaches off the beaten track, culinary destinations (lobster-shack road trip!) or culture, we’ve found plenty of weekend getaways to satisfy your wanderlust.
