Don't Forget To Use Sunscreen

Its been said many times and more others proven that to go in the sun without pretection can cause you some serious skin damage.
The UV rays can harm your skin in just minutes even when you can't see, but you'll get to feel it later. Thats why here are some tips:
·        Try to put on sunscreen before you go outside to get full protection. And remember to reapply every 2 hours, more frequently if you are in water.
·        Always use a sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) 15 or higher. The higher the SPF number, the higher the protection.
·        Put a thicker layer of sunscreen on the most exposed body parts: arms, legs, neck, back and face.
·        Protect your lips with sunscreen lip balm.
·        Avoid using sunscreen on babies younger than six months—use hats, clothing and shade for protection.
·        Think about using cosmetics that contain sunscreen. Even these should be at least SPF 15.
·        Choose a broad spectrum of products that guard against the sun's ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays.
Other ways to protect yourself include:
·        Clothing: Shirts and pants made from tightly woven fabric offer the best protection.
·        Hats: To get the most protection, wear a hat with a brim that shades the face, ears and back of your neck.
·        Sunglasses: They protect your eyes from UVA and UVB rays and lower cataract risks.
·        Shade: Get under an umbrella, tree or anywhere else with shade.

Getting sunburned or tanned could be a red flag about your skin's health. When you're in the sun, make sure to slather on some sunscreen and reapply after being out for more than two hours to keep beauty—and your health—skin deep.

Why The Sun Is Good

FOR years we have been told to cover up in the sun to cut the risk of getting skin cancer. But now it seems that a little bit of sunshine on your body is actually good for you.
Studies have shown that a sensible amount of sun reduces your risk of several cancers and other serious health conditions.
And it's all thanks to vitamin D, which is made by our bodies through the action of the sun's UVB rays on our skin.
Even the Stone Age people knew the Sun brought life on Earth and that is why they used to worship it. But the sun waves can heal and destroy, they can be the kiss of life or death. It depends on the way we use them.
1. The sunlight kills microbes. That's why it is important to put out in the sun carpets, blankets and eiderdowns that cannot be washed regularly. Exposure to the sun confers the skin a bright, healthy look and increased elasticity.
A moderately tanned skin is more resistant to infections and sun burning than an untanned one. Many skin diseases (dermatitis) can be controlled and even cured through controlled exposure to the sun. The sun rays are proven to strengthen the immune system.
2. Due to the sun our mood and morals improve. Sunlight helps in cases of chronic or acute depression, by stimulating the synthesis of endorphins (good-feeling hormones). That's why we get depressed in the cold and dark days of the winter.
3. The sun is good against insomnia. Daytime exposure to sunlight increases the melatonin production during the night. This hormone helps regulate the sleep.
4. Under the action of the sunlight, the skin synthesizes vitamin D, which makes possible calcium absorption in the intestine, helping the organism grow strong bones. This way the sun prevents rachitism in both children and adults and osteoporosis in elders.
5. As vitamin D and some related compounds impede the development of some cancer cells, we can say the sun fights off this disease. Regular and controlled exposure to the sun has a preventive effect against cancer of colon, breast, leukemia and lymphomas.
6. Exposure to the sun strengthens the cardiovascular system. Blood circulation is improved, the pulse, arterial pressure, moderately high glycemia and cholesterol levels can be normalized.
7. Sun rays improve liver functioning, being effective in treating jaundice.
8. They help the kidneys with a part of their job, as the sun waves favor the elimination of waste products through the skin, when we sweat.
9. The sun also helps losing weight by increasing the metabolic rate through the stimulation of the thyroid. It also eases symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.
10. The sun rays also ease the healing of the swollen joints during peaks of inflammation in cases of arthritis.

Earth Day In NY

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Earth Day is more than a one-day event or annual environmental wake-up call. It is a catalyst for ongoing education, action, and change. It simultaneously broadens the base of support and rekindles old commitments through highly participatory strategies.

Earth Day New York is a  501 organization that promotes environmental awareness and solutions through partnerships with schools, community organizations, businesses, and government entities; educating public and private policymakers throgh conferences and publications; and involving the general public in annual Earth Day events.

Earth Day New York was founded in late 1989 by a broad coalition of environmental groups to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Earth Day in New York City.

For the past seven years, Earth Day New York has hosted an outdoor fair at Grand Central, which has included hundreds of both local and national green businesses and environmental organizations, as well as a concert. Two years ago, we added Times Square to the festivities, where we have a green vehicle exhibition and even more businesses and environmental organizations are represented.

Super Bowl Sunday

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), the highest level of professional American football in the United States. Football season starts late summer of the prior year.  The game was created as part of a merger agreement between the NFL and its then-rival league, the American Football League (AFL).
The day on which the Super Bowl is played, now considered by some an American National holiday, is called "Super Bowl Sunday". It is the second-largest day for U.S. food consumption, after Thanksgiving Day.
In addition, the Super Bowl has frequently been the most watched American television broadcast of the year. Super Bowl XLV, played in 2011, became the most-watched American television program in history, drawing an average audience of 111 million viewers and taking over the spot held by the previous year's Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is also among the most watched sporting events in the world, mostly due to North American audiences, and is second to association football(soccer)’s UEFA Champions League final as the most watched annual sporting event worldwide.

Because of its high viewership, commercial airtime during the Super Bowl broadcast is the most expensive of the year. Due to the high cost of investing in advertising on the Super Bowl, companies regularly develop their most expensive advertisements for this broadcast. As a result, watching and discussing the broadcast's commercials has become a significant aspect of the event. In addition, many popular singers and musicians have performed during the event's pre-game and halftime ceremonies because of the exposure.

This Year Super Bowl Sunday takes place February 03, 2013 and this game is between the Baltimore’s Ravens and San Francisco 49’ers.

Mulch

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Every year Mulch is used on houses in flower beds, around trees and nurseries. Mulch besides providing a good and clean look on our gardeners it also protects it because it prevents erosion, controls weeds, adds nutrients and holds water in the ground.Shredded mulch is usually sold as single, double or triple shredded.

Mulch is usually applied towards the beginning of the growing season, and is often reapplied as necessary. It serves initially to warm the soil by helping it retain heat which is lost during the night. This allows early seeding and transplanting of certain crops, and encourages faster growth. As the season progresses, mulch stabilizes the soil temperature and moisture, and prevents sunlight from germinating weed seeds.

Materials used as mulches vary and are made differently.  depend on use, availability, cost, appearance, the effect it has on the soil including chemical reactions, durability, combustibility, how clean it is some can contain weed seeds or plant pathogens.

Local Tree Removal Companies are ALWAYS BETTER

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

In the weeks after following sandy many people were looking for someone to attend to their emergencies ASAP. The best thing is always to contact the local companies near you, this way you can always verify that they are legit companies that have references and are insured.

Unfortunately due to the high demand after a natural disaster many opportunists start appearing from everywhere so you should make sure this people are licensed to remove trees.

As we mentioned on our prior post, there are 2 very common mistakes a homeowner often makes.

1. Make sure is a local contractor and you can verify their office address... verify this companies that will remove your tree aren't "Here today and Gone Tomorrow".  To the verified the quality of a job you need to be able to also reach them and when need it.... Many times you can see customers giving money to people up front who never come back tomorrow to do the job.

2. Make sure they aren't Landscapers... I know many times we trying to save some money specially when more than just a tree felt down on your property but you may not be saving money, this can turn into a dangerous result. Landscaping companies don't have the insurance to cover an accident while removing a tree because they aren't licensed for it, they can only do debris clean up. There are so many ways this combination can go wrong in so many ways from a tree being removed in a bad way causing more damage to your property to someone getting injured because they didn't have the experience of a tree removal expert so be careful and its better to be safe.
