How old Can a Tree Live?

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

It depends on the species tree. Some species don't live too long, maybe 40 or 50 years for some palm trees, but some can live up to 5000 years, such as the Bristlecone Pine (Pinus longaeva).

Most tree species live on the order of one to a few hundred years, and so will easily outlive a person, and can also outlive some countries. For example, many of the giant redwoods on the central coast of California were alive when Christopher Columbus discovered the new world, and were alive when the founding fathers rebelled against England, and will still be around in another several hundred years.

Trees can live anywhere from less than 100 years up to more than a few thousand years. It all depends on what type of tree it is. In the United States, the tree with the longest lifespan is the bristle cone pine, which grows in the mountains of Nevada and southern California. A singletree can live up to 5,000 years!

ARBOL DEL TULE IN OAXACA MEX

Its trunk has aproximately a circumference of 119 ft, equating to a diameter of 38.1 ft, a slight increase from a measurement of 37.5 ftHowever, the trunk is heavily buttressed, giving a higher diameter reading than the true cross-sectional of the trunk represents; when this is taken into account, the diameter of the 'smoothed out' trunk is 30.8 ft.
The height is difficult to measure due to the very broad crown; In 2005 they measured it to 116 ft,  shorter than previous measurements of 135–141 ft. The DNA of this tree as proven than although it looks like its diffeent trees attached to each other its only one tree. This tree is located by a church and it attracts people who start encouturing figures of animals across the truck from an elephant shape to a gorilla's face.

LONE CYPRESS
17-Mile Drive is a scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach on the Monterey Peninsula in California, much of which hugs the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses and mansions. Part of it serves as the main road through the gated community of Pebble Beach. Inside this community, nonresidents have to pay a toll to use the road. Chief among the scenic attractions is the Lone Cypress Tree (36.568738°N 121.965321°W), a salt-pruned Monterey cypress(macrocarpa) tree which is the official symbol of Pebble Beach and a frequent fixture of television broadcasts from this area. The Monterey Cypress is a species of cypress that is endemic to the Central Coast of California. In the wild, the species is confined to two small populations, near Monterey and Carmel.

THE CIRCUS TREE "BASKET TREE"
Axel Erlandson a man who used to shape trees as a hobby got the idea to make this tree from a visit that his daughter and wife did to an ocean near santa cruz california in 1945. He quickly bought land in Santa Clara valley where he planted 6 sycamore trees in a circle, topped them all at one foot, then approach-grafted them together one to another to form the diamond patterns. For the first 2.5 meters (8') he left an opening at the top. This specimen today is featured as the centerpiece of Gilroy Gardens.

THE TREE OF LIFE
The Tree of Life in Bahrain is a mesquite tree which grows in the middle of desert. The tree is said to be 400 to 500 years old. Its long roots probably have found some underground water source, but it is still a miracle as it is the only green living organism living in a vast and barren desert. The local inhabitants believe that this was the actual location of the Garden of Eden.

AVENUE OF THE BAOBABS
The Avenue of the Baobabs is a group of famous trees lining the dirt road between Morondava and Belon’i Tsiribihina in western Madagascar. Its striking landscape draws travelers from around the world, making it one of the most visited tourist attractions in Madagascar. The Baobab trees, up to 800 years old, did not originally tower in isolation over the sere landscape of scrub but stood in dense tropical forest. Over the years, as the country’s population grew, the forests were cleared for agriculture, leaving only the famous baobab trees.
