How To Take Care Of Your Trees On Summer Time!

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716
www.AAATreeServiceNY.com

Summer Dos, Don’ts and Tips for Trees

Does

·        Use organic mulches (wood chips, bark, etc)  to conserve soil moisture and moderate soil temperature.  Mulch should be 2 -4 inches deep and should never touch the trunk of the tree.
·        Pay more attention to trees near pavement or other hard surfaces since these trees experience more heat than those in  the middle of a yard or landscaped area.
·        Water so that it soaks into the ground rather than running off.
·        Deep watering is essential!
·        The best time to water mature trees is between late evening, at night , or very early morning.   Trees replace the  water they have lost during the day at night.  Watering at night also reduces the amount of water lost to evaporation.
·        During drought and water restrictions, give trees priority over lawns.  It takes many more years to grow a tree than a lawn.  A lawn can become dormant and, if necessary, can be replaced in a season; it could take a lifetime to replace a large tree.
·        Inspect for Bugs.
·        There are several species that are more prevalent in summer months. If you are unsure of what to look for, contact your local arborist who can help identify devastating species and provide helpful information on getting rid of the pests.
·        Hazard Assessment.
·        Now is the perfect time to inspect trees to determine hazard assessment. The Atlantic Hurricane season officially began on June 1, 2012 and ends on November 30, 2012. It is important to identify problem areas with trees early on to protect your family, home and property. Contact your arborist to do a complete assessment.

Donts

·        Do not use inorganic mulches such as stones.
·        Do not give small amounts of water.  Even if this is done often, it does more harm than good. This encourages shallow roots that dry quickly.
·        Do not use fertilizers around trees during drought and be very cautious about the use of pesticides.
·        Do not prune unless absolutely necessary, with high temperatures many times trees can dry up and instead of helping the tree you will be killing the tree. Spring and Fall are the best times to prune a tree

Don't Forget To Use Sunscreen

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716
www.AAATreeServiceNY.com

Its been said many times and more others proven that to go in the sun without pretection can cause you some serious skin damage.
The UV rays can harm your skin in just minutes even when you can't see, but you'll get to feel it later. Thats why here are some tips:
·        Try to put on sunscreen before you go outside to get full protection. And remember to reapply every 2 hours, more frequently if you are in water.
·        Always use a sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) 15 or higher. The higher the SPF number, the higher the protection.
·        Put a thicker layer of sunscreen on the most exposed body parts: arms, legs, neck, back and face.
·        Protect your lips with sunscreen lip balm.
·        Avoid using sunscreen on babies younger than six months—use hats, clothing and shade for protection.
·        Think about using cosmetics that contain sunscreen. Even these should be at least SPF 15.
·        Choose a broad spectrum of products that guard against the sun's ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays.
Other ways to protect yourself include:
·        Clothing: Shirts and pants made from tightly woven fabric offer the best protection.
·        Hats: To get the most protection, wear a hat with a brim that shades the face, ears and back of your neck.
·        Sunglasses: They protect your eyes from UVA and UVB rays and lower cataract risks.
·        Shade: Get under an umbrella, tree or anywhere else with shade.

Getting sunburned or tanned could be a red flag about your skin's health. When you're in the sun, make sure to slather on some sunscreen and reapply after being out for more than two hours to keep beauty—and your health—skin deep.

What to Give Dad for Father’s Day

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

It is true that the best gifts are the ones that are sincere and unexpensive, most of the best things in life are so simple but so important for the well being such as air, sun and time... and most importantly they are FREE.

Since we are talking about a celebration as Father's Day we always want to go beyond to show that person we love them and we thought of them but then again what to give to a man who has everything he wants? With mother's is more simple like flowers or cards but with fathers it can be tricky sometimes.

For Fathers Day We can also keep it simple, it doesn't always need to be a hassle, many times we don't realize that men are simpler than women. Always go for what they like but then again if you have given something they like in yrs prior how many times can you repeat this over and over right? so here are some inexpensive and thoughtful ideas for father's day.

Make a Coupon Book. Maybe there are many things he would like to do with his time but since hes taking care of other things he really doesnt find time to.
Think about giving him maybe 10-15 coupons offering your services or activities maybe he does need a partner in crime. They can include maybe washing the car, going to the movies w him, going to eat steak, or even giving him 1-2 hrs free while you are doing something for him so he can watch some T.V. This is easy and you get to realize and get to know your father better, the list of things can be wide.

Homemade Treats: Tasty home-baked goods make fool-proof gifts. Whip up a cobbler or pie with luscious local summer fruit. If your dad is trying to eat more healthfully, encourage him by preparing a recipe that incorporates whole grains and goes easy on the sugar. For a more long-lasting gift, prepare some pickles or a homemade jam .

Old Photos Can Be Fun (and Embarrassing). Surely in a closet somewhere are some old photos of the family at play. Find the box (or boxes) and bring them out on Father's Day. Pass them around and ask Dad what he remembers about the experience in the photo. This is guaranteed to generate both laughs and tears. And it will help you connect with the "old man." And remember, no snickers about his hair, his clothes, or those funky sideburns!

Beyond the Gym: Many dad-types I know are constantly trying to stay in shape or shape up. Why not turn introduce your dad to a new form of exercise? Trying a new form of physical activity can be deeply rewarding, even if it doesn't 'stick' or become your dad's go-to work-out. It's kind of like eating cereal with your non-dominant hand -- a great way to engage your brain. You could set your dad up with a private lesson at a his local yoga studio or a pack of beginner's classes or even an instructional dvd. He might be particularly tickled if the sport in question sounds somewhat obscure -- like gyrotonic or tai chi. If those sounds a bit posh for your dad's taste maybe give him a badminton or petanque set instead.

Long Distance. If you aren't at home or near enough to make a personal visit on Father's Day, consider some ways to narrow the distance. Instead of a card, how about a letter sharing your feelings and memories about your dad? Could you make a picture collage of some of your favorite dad times? How about a long and chatty phone call? You can still give of yourself, even if the miles and the time zones might separate you.

Father's Day

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Sunday, June 16

Father's Is one of the most important modern celebrations of the month of June and even when its not as commercialized and popular as Mother's Day its also a reason to celebrate those 2 wonderful people who brought you to live.

Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. Many countries celebrate it on the third Sunday of June, but it is also celebrated widely on other days. Father's Day was created to complement Mother's Day, a celebration that honors mothers and motherhood.

Father's Day was founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas. Its first celebration was on June 19, 1910.

Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. In recent years, stores have adapted to the holiday by promoting greeting cards and traditionally male-oriented gifts such as electronics and tools. Schools and other children's programs commonly have activities to make Father's Day gifts.

Father's Day is accompanied by a smaller total number of phone calls, greeting cards and gifts than Mother's Day. It is speculated that this is due to the greater number of households with a mother than households with a father (due to single mothers), to the greater role of mothers in housework, and to historical advantage - Mother's Day began in 1870 and became official in 1914 while Father's Day only became official in 1972.

Either or, if you are lucky enough to have your father around go and celebrate it with him, as always it doesn't need to be something big ..but its nice to make someone realize how much you appreciate them in your life.
Let us know how you celebrate Father's Day ...you can always visit us on our WEBSITE.
