Largest Cementery in the U.S.

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Now that memorial day is coming and we want to remember the brave men that have served with their lives our nation, its important to know where they rest in peace.

Arlington Cementary is one of the largest military cementaries in the U.S. and very known for its location close to the u.s. Capito, The cementary was established during the American Civil War on the grounds of Arlington House, formerly the estate of the family of Confederate general Robert E. Lee's wife Mary Anna (Curtis) Lee, a great grand-daughter of Martha Washington. The cemetery is situated directly across the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. It is served by the Arlington Cemetery station on the Blue Line of the Washington Metro system. In an area of 624 acres (253 ha), veterans and military casualties from each of the nation's wars are interred in the cemetery, ranging from the American Civil War through to the military actions in Afghanistanand Iraq.

However even when Arlington's Cementary is very known here in long island we have the lasrgest cementary of the U.S. The largest of the 130 national cemeteries is the Calverton National Cemetery, on Long Island, near Riverhead, N.Y. That cemetery conducts more than 7,000 burials each year"  The United States flag is flown over national cemeteries every day. Graves are decorated annually with United States gravesite flags the Saturday before Memorial Day and are removed the Saturday after the holiday. Flags are not permitted on graves at any other time.
In 1974, Long Island National Cemetery was the only national cemetery on Long Island with available space for burials--but its maximum burial capacity was soon to be exhausted. As a result, plans were developed by the National Cemetery System to construct a new regional cemetery to serve the greater New York area—home, then, to nearly three million veterans and their dependents. On Dec. 7, 1977, a 902-acre tract of land was transferred from the U.S. Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant at Calverton to the Veterans Administration for use as a national cemetery.
The National Cemetery System realized that Calverton National Cemetery would become one of its more active cemeteries. For that reason, they designed and built a feature called a committal “wheel” of shelters that permits multiple burial services to be held simultaneously. To the left of the main cemetery entrance, around the Veteran’s Circle, are seven committal shelters. After the funeral service, the caskets are moved into the hub of the wheel and then transported to their respective gravesites. One floral arrangement is taken to the gravesite. In 1983, the walls of the committal shelters were reconstructed to serve as columbaria for the inurnment of cremated remains. Calverton is the largest, and one of the most active national cemeteries currently overseen by the National Cemetery Administration.
Monuments and Memorials
Calverton National Cemetery features a memorial pathway lined with a variety of memorials that honor America's veterans. As of 2009, there are 23 memorials here, most commemorating soldiers of 20th century wars.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

“April showers bring May flowers." This is such a known and popular saying its been taught by parents and teachers. This saying is so old that you can even go back to the mid 1500's.

The rhyme used to be a short poem but there is more to it than just a rhyme. “April showers bring May flowers” is a reminder that even the most unpleasant of things, in this case the heavy rains of April, can bring about very enjoyable things indeed – in this case, an abundance of flowers in May. “April showers bring May flowers” is a lesson in patience, and one that remains valid to this day.

Many of life’s greatest things come only to those who wait, and by patiently and happily enduring the clouds and damp of April you can find yourself more easily able to take in the sights and smells of May. After all, it’s easier to love something if you begin with an optimistic outlook!

“April showers bring May flowers” isn’t just a rhyme. It’s an example of the spring cycle of renewal that many parts of the Earth go through, and can be scientifically analyzed. There are actually several contributing factors to the appearance of flowers in May.

Earth Day In NY

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Earth Day is more than a one-day event or annual environmental wake-up call. It is a catalyst for ongoing education, action, and change. It simultaneously broadens the base of support and rekindles old commitments through highly participatory strategies.

Earth Day New York is a  501 organization that promotes environmental awareness and solutions through partnerships with schools, community organizations, businesses, and government entities; educating public and private policymakers throgh conferences and publications; and involving the general public in annual Earth Day events.

Earth Day New York was founded in late 1989 by a broad coalition of environmental groups to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Earth Day in New York City.

For the past seven years, Earth Day New York has hosted an outdoor fair at Grand Central, which has included hundreds of both local and national green businesses and environmental organizations, as well as a concert. Two years ago, we added Times Square to the festivities, where we have a green vehicle exhibition and even more businesses and environmental organizations are represented.

Are Many people asked them selves how to get ready for winter and although its a fact that trees native from the area are the ones who will make it the best because they are ready to handle all seasons others make not make it out the same.

Tree Wrap
Smooth-barked trees are susceptible to something called “frost cracks”. These occur when there is a sudden change in temperature and can hurt the tree.

Pruning
If you prune and take care of your tree this will allow the tree to not be able to get heavy with the snow so the high risk of falling on your home diminishes.

Mulch
Mulch can protect trees n many ways including wildfires. It also helps so small animals don't make their homes destroying the trees.

Watering
Some Trees make have troubles getting hydrated due to the snow blockage which makes the tree dry and results on it dying.

Fertilizing
Fertilizing with nitrogen-heavy products in the fall is the key element for a tree growth and resistance.

CAT RESCUE

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Cats seem to be fans of climbing trees, there are many reasons why they do but mostly to do with predatory or defensive instincts. Cats, as predators like to know its surroundings. Their scope of vision is considerably smaller than the outdoor environment of their yards or neighborhoods.

Cats often climb trees to get a better view of their surroundings, to help them see any potential dangers or potential prey. While cats are predators, they are also vulnerable to attacks from larger animals, such as dogs or even other cats.

A tree often provides a safe hiding place, particularly from any annoyed canine that happens to be passing. In the wild, cats climb up trees to give them a resting or napping place that is out of predators’ range. It also helps disguise their presence, which can prevent any prey from noticing that there is a cat in the vicinity. Sometimes, cats climb trees in response to noticing the inhabitants of upper branches: birds and squirrels.

Frequently, a cat will be a little too excited by the possibility of a free-range meal and climb to precarious heights in pursuit of a tasty meal. This situation can result in serious unhappiness for the other animal, the cat, and the owner faced with getting his or her pet down from the top branches of a spruce, so a cat owner may want to consider taking preventative action the moment his or her cat approaches a likely tree.

Local Tree Removal Companies are ALWAYS BETTER

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

In the weeks after following sandy many people were looking for someone to attend to their emergencies ASAP. The best thing is always to contact the local companies near you, this way you can always verify that they are legit companies that have references and are insured.

Unfortunately due to the high demand after a natural disaster many opportunists start appearing from everywhere so you should make sure this people are licensed to remove trees.

As we mentioned on our prior post, there are 2 very common mistakes a homeowner often makes.

1. Make sure is a local contractor and you can verify their office address... verify this companies that will remove your tree aren't "Here today and Gone Tomorrow".  To the verified the quality of a job you need to be able to also reach them and when need it.... Many times you can see customers giving money to people up front who never come back tomorrow to do the job.

2. Make sure they aren't Landscapers... I know many times we trying to save some money specially when more than just a tree felt down on your property but you may not be saving money, this can turn into a dangerous result. Landscaping companies don't have the insurance to cover an accident while removing a tree because they aren't licensed for it, they can only do debris clean up. There are so many ways this combination can go wrong in so many ways from a tree being removed in a bad way causing more damage to your property to someone getting injured because they didn't have the experience of a tree removal expert so be careful and its better to be safe.

AUTUMN CLEAN UP

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

When seasons change we all love the change and mix of colors, but this beauty can only last for a bit when we realize these leaves will fall and we will have to clean up. They can be cleaned through blowing, raking or vacuuming.

When cleaning and putting all the leaves together we recommend concentrated areas suck as under trees, inside fences or the crook of an l-wing on a house, where the leaves stay there and don't have another place to go.

Try to just not blow them , you can add carbon dioxide which reduces other nutrients to the environment.

Leaves can damage for homes, cars but specially roofs.

To prevent this you should trim your branches so that leaves don't fall on your roof, the perfect time for pruning is before leaves start falling which eliminates the work in advance.

To lighten cleaning loads for the leaves that do land on the roof, consider covering gutters with chicken wire or commercial gutter screens.

5 ways to get rid of leaves after collected would be compost them, make leaf mold, mulch, hoard them or mow them.

Why Trees Fall

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

Trees are a very important part of life and necessary for us, they offer benefits and beauty. Many times trees or parts of trees may fall and injure a home or someone. Homeowners are responsible to make the property and environment safe. While there are many possibilities of a tree to fall, only a very small number can actually cause damage but its always better to be safe than sorry.

The best way when you can identify if a tree is a risk is by hiring a profesional but it can also be visible. Trees with time grow uneven and unbalanced but there are ways we can avoid accidents. In aaatreeservice every time we go and give an estimate we realize that most of the times the reason why a tree felt was is because 80% of the tree's total weight was located on the top part of the tree causing the tree to lean to the side and fall. The best way to avoid any danger is to up-keep your trees, maintain them in good conditions and give them a safety prune or a prune back.

If you have any questions or can’t find the service you’re looking for, call AAA so we can answer all of your questions! Also, be sure to visit our Facebook page, linked HERE!

Dangerous Trees to Have In Your Property

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

The statement says: "Plant A Tree, Write A Book, Have a Son"

Every year trees fall causing big accidents and millions of dollars to home owners all across the country. That's why many times home owners have decided to cut down their tall trees.

Most of homeowners love their trees and would rather not get rid of them but these trees can be dangerous at times, that's why you should know which trees are the most common and can be dangerous so you can avoid an accident.

Probably one of the most common dangerous tree that you can have around your home is:

 PINES

Pines are native of the Northern Hemisphere

Pine trees can be potentially dangerous to a property and specially a home if they are located very close to it, because they grow very tall and heavy but at the same time its roots don't grow very deep bellow the ground point.  That's why every time there are even potentially high winds or storms pines may be the ones on inclining and can cause big damage if they actually fall on your home.

We would recommend to consult a tree specialist and get a free estimate to see how dangerous your trees can be to your property.

WHY DO I NEED A PERMIT TO REMOVE A TREE?

631-993-1039 / 516-659-4716

When the weather damages trees many times people tend to believe that since a tree is located in their property they can decide whether or not they can remove a tree, but they can actually get in trouble if they don't investigate; they may need a permit of removal. If you are thinking whether or not taking down a tree on your own property, you would need to contact your Village to do so. If you don’t follow Village Code and remove trees unlawfully, you could be fined. The answer May Vary also depending in which Village you reside in.

                 You may need a permit:

Trees with trunks exceeding 6-12 inches in diameter.

None Common Tree species

Any tree located close to a busy street or close to a curb.

If a tree is completely healthy, many times Villages can send their own tree expert to revise the tree.

Depending the Location of it, even if it is inside your property.

You may not need a permit:

  • Small trees with thin trunk diameter of less than 6 inches.

  • A tree that is endangering your property or created some damage to your property.

  • A tree may be removed when an actual emergency is happening to protect your property and  people lives.

  • If a tree is determined by a tree expert to be dead or dying a report must be submitted to the Village building department.

  • A tree may also be removed if considered an invasive species.

We would always advice the home owner to investigate with your local town.

Towns that may need permits: Suffolk and Nassau County, NEW YORK.
